The Maldives Reform Movement led by former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom was handed its official certificate of registration on Monday.
Elections Commission chief Ahmed Shareef handed the document to MRM executive committee member Dr Ibrahim Hassan at a ceremony on Monday morning.
Gayoom was elected MRM’s interim president earlier this month. At the closing ceremony of its inaugural congress on Saturday night, the former president said the party will reserve 25 percent of posts for youth under 30 years of age and seek to promote gender equality. The MRM is part of the four-party ruling coalition led by President Solih’s Maldivian Democratic Party.
We just received from @ElectionsMv the official document of the registration of MRM as a political party. Congratulations all members! Special thanks to our founder Yumna Maumoon, SG Aleem and his able staff! @MRM_Office @MRM_Women @MRM_Youth

Six-year-old boy memorises Quran
Islamic Affairs Minister Dr Ahmed Zahir Ali on Monday met with a six-year-old Maldivian boy who committed the Holy Quran to memory, a rare feat for a child.
The minister gifted a copy of the Quran to Yousuf bin Mazin at a meeting with his parents and gave the boy encouragement. Yousuf reportedly began learning the Quran in baby nursery. He will receive the title of hafiz once he recites the complete book to a committee at the Centre for the Holy Quran.
The youngest Maldivian to memorise the Quran was five-year-old Mohamed Asham Ali.
Italian engineers asses cable car to Kaashidhoo
The president of Sintechnica Engineering along with an associate from the Italian company is conducting an assessment to connect the islands of Kaashidhoo and Gaafaru by a cable car, the constituency’s lawmaker revealed on Sunday, expressing confidence in the feasibility of the project.
Introducing cable cars to the Maldives was a campaign pledge of Kaashidhoo MP Abdulla Jabir, a resort owner and leader of the Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party. Jabir was widely ridiculed for the pledge as the distance between the islands is 24km, three times the length of the world’s longest cable car line in China.
