Three suspects arrested in connection with an assault on the Fonadhoo island in Laamu atoll have been remanded for trial.
The Laamu Gan magistrate ordered detention for the duration of their upcoming trials, a police spokesman told local media. The magistrate court also remanded a minor involved in the assault for 10 days.
Two young men were injured in the gang fight on the southern island last Monday, one of whom was reportedly attacked with a machete and cut in two places on his legs. Both victims have since been released from the regional hospital after treatment.
Two of the suspects in custody are aged 23 and one is 22-years of age.
