Two teens arrested over bullying video

Two teenagers were arrested Sunday over a video that showed a 15-year-old girl being bullied and slapped around.

A police spokesman told the press that a 17-year-old and an 18-year-old had been arrested under a court order.

The video depicts three girls bullying another girl, who has been identified as Nashfa Hassan, while a fourth person films them.

She went missing after the video went viral in late August, but turned up at police headquarters after three days.

Nashfa’s mother told Mihaaru that four girls came to the family home and took her daughter outside on the day of the bullying.

Nashfa had stopped attending school because of bullying, she added.

A teacher told the Maldives Independent that Rehendhi School did not have permission from the Education Ministry to say anything about the girl.

The Education Ministry was unavailable for comment at the time of going to press.
