The family of a teenager who was stabbed to death in the capital have asked people to stop sharing a “painful” video of the assault.
Ibrahim Agil was attacked near the Maldives Monetary Authority building in Malé’s northern waterfront, a short distance from the police and military headquarters.
A video showing Agil after the stabbing was posted on social media. He can be seen on the ground fighting for his life while people look on, according to local media.
On Saturday his sister used social media to ask people not to share the “painful video” of her brother struggling for his last breath.
Her plea has been retweeted more than 300 times since.
Agil was taken to ADK Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. According to local media, he had been stabbed in the chest.
The video was being used to raise concern about the “dangerous level Maldivian society had fallen to” because people did not come to the 18-year-old’s aid, VFP reported.
No arrests have been made over the attack, Mihaaru reported.
Agil was from the island of Fares-Maathoda in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll.
