A 26-year-old man found unconscious with severe injuries at a residence in Malé yesterday has died while undergoing treatment at the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
Local media has identified the deceased as Ahmed Zameen from the island of Thoddoo in Alif Alif atoll.
He was found at the stairwell on the sixth floor of Moosun Bahaaruge in the Maafanu ward of the capital.
A police spokesperson said an investigation is underway, but the police have not yet determined whether Zameen died of injuries sustained either in an assault or an accidental fall.
IGMH spokesperson Ahmed Mausoom said Zameen had sustained severe head injuries and a CT scan revealed internal bleeding.
“We cannot conclude how the injuries were caused. But his death resulted from severe internal bleeding caused by head injuries,” Mausoom said.
According to newspaper Haveeru, Zameen came to Malé on Monday night to buy timber for a guesthouse under construction in Thoddoo.
His father told the local daily that the nature of Zameen’s injuries suggest he was murdered. Zameen had no connection to the house where he was discovered and the family is unaware of anyone who bore him animosity, he said.
