IGHM under fire over death of babies
The government-run Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital in the capital has been under fire after funeral notices for at least three babies were posted over the weekend.
Two babies died prior to birth during Friday and early on Saturday morning, the public hospital said. The third infant died at the private ADK hospital, according to media reports.
“All prenatal and postnatal deaths are investigated both by the hospital and a committee from the ministry of health under strict guidelines,” IGMH said, assuring that findings will be shared with families upon request.
Funeral notices for two more infants on Saturday night prompted concern and more alarming headlines.
A hospital spokesman told Maldives Independent that both cases on Saturday night were “miscarriages” before the fetus developed and not stillborn babies.

New warehouses built in Thilafushi
A building to house warehouses to be relocated from Malé has been completed in the industrial island of Thilafushi near the capital.
The government decided to relocate all chemical warehouses after a deadly fire in September. The building was completed in 37 days and will be handed over to the state-owned Greater Malé Industrial Zone Ltd on Sunday, the contractor S.J Construction tweeted on Saturday.
The prefabricated building was set up in an area measuring over 100,000 square feet (2.2 acres) and the relocated warehouses will be put into cargo containers, according to Mihaaru.
Of the 126 chemical warehouses in Malé, 82 were inside residential buildings and 98 were adjacent to residential buildings, according to Defense Minister Mariya Didi. More than 30 warehouses identified by the military as most urgently in need of relocation will be moved to the new building, GMIZL boss Mohamed Rasheed Aboobakuru said.
