Motorcyclist killed in Addu link road accident

A 29-year-old man died of injuries Saturday night after his motorcycle collided with a car on the Addu City link road.

Local media identified the victim as Mohamed Rashmu Riyaz from Noomugumaage in Hithadhoo. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Hithadhoo regional hospital.

The driver and others in the car were also rushed to the hospital.

Numerous fatal accidents have occurred on the causeway that connects islands of the southernmost atoll, prompting calls for a law on mandatory helmet wearing in 2015.
