Crypto scam, MDP rally and Rasmalé payout

Withdrawals from the GMCE or Gemcue cryptocurrency investment platform – declared by police to be a pyramid scheme – were blocked, sparking panic among local investors who stand to lose up to US$ 3 million. There were more than 41,000 Maldivians in its Telegram group and more than 50,000 people, including police officers and lawmakers, were believed to have invested in the USDT mining scheme.

The MDP chairman accused the government of refusing to approve a public space for a rally to welcome former president Nasheed back to the party. If a venue is not arranged by next Monday, the party intends to hold the event near the presidential residence, Fayyaz said, inviting supporters to gather at the corner of Muleeage at 9pm.
