The ruling party's supermajority in parliament amended the decentralisation law to prohibit collecting rent from land leased for public services and to restrict council-run businesses and pre-election hiring and leases. The opposition MDP's chairman vowed to reverse the changes if the party returns to power, as the local government minister defended the administration's track record.
