Three inmates at the high-security Maafushi jail were injured in a fight on Sunday.
An assault incident was reported at around 6pm, a police spokesman told the Maldives Independent.
Three inmates were injured and an investigation is under way, he confirmed. The injuries were not life-threatening, according to reports.
The Maldives Correctional Service was not responding to calls.
Last month, the government formed a seven-member commission to conduct an audit of the jails in the Maldives. The commission has asked the public to share information about the treatment of inmates.
