A Chinese tourist died Tuesday in a drowning accident in the pool of the Paradise Island Resort near the capital Malé.

A police spokesperson confirmed to the Maldives Independent that they were investigating a report of a drowning.

According to sources familiar with the accident, the deceased was a 54-year-old woman. She was immediately brought to the ADK hospital in Malé but was pronounced dead on arrival.

It was the third death of a tourist by drowning this month.

On October 23, a one-year-old Irish boy drowned after falling into the pool of his parent’s villa at the luxury Huvafenfushi Resort.

The boy and his two siblings were being watched by a babysitter when he went missing. He was found floating in the private pool of the villa 15 minutes later.

An Irish tourist on his honeymoon in the Maldives also drowned on October 19.

The Maldives police said he was 30-years-old but refused to reveal further details. Irish media identified him as Andrew Roddy. He reportedly got into difficulty while snorkelling with his wife.
