Maldives ‘committed’ to relationship with India

Foreign Minister Dr Mohamed Asim has hailed the strength of India-Maldives diplomatic ties, seeking to counter suggestions that the relationship is under strain due to growing Chinese influence.

Foreign Minister Dr Mohamed Asim has hailed the strength of India-Maldives diplomatic ties, seeking to counter suggestions that the relationship is under strain due to growing Chinese influence.
The assurance comes amid a flurry of Indian media reports about the China-Maldives free trade agreement signed this month.
Last week, India’s External Affairs spokesman Raveesh Kumar told the media that the development of bilateral relations between China and the Maldives was welcomed as long as it contributed to the peace and stability in the region.
