All three councillors of Kaafu Maafushi have been indefinitely suspended by the Local Government Authority and are under investigation.
The council’s vice president Nasheedha Adam told SunOnline  the LGA asked, via text message Wednesday, that the councillors wait at home for an indefinite period.
A letter sent by Kaafu atoll council, obtained by the Maldives Independent, said the trio were being investigated and were ordered to stay away from work from Thursday.
The council’s permanent secretary will be in charge during this period, the letter said. It did not say what the elected officials are being investigated for.
Nasheedha told the Maldives Independent she had not received any complaints or notice of an investigation either from the atoll council or the LGA.
Last month, the LGA suspended three councillors from Gaaf Alif atoll for meeting the Indian Ambassador Akhilesh Mishra without the permission of the central government.
