A company has failed in its third attempt to recover more than MVR 454,000 (US$29,487) from a former lawmaker, Mihaaru reports.
Maldives Civil Court ruled Monday that Amity Enterprises Pvt Ltd could not sue Mohamed Musthafa to recover money from cheques he issued more than 11 years ago.
Amity had asked the court to order him to pay the money owed to the firm. The amount also includes money the company wanted to cover losses incurred from failing to get the payment.
It is the third time the company has taken the matter to court. The two previous cases were thrown out after Amity failed to show up at the hearings.
The court said Amity had exceeded a statute of limitations set in financial laws when they failed to cash the four cheques within six months and had therefore lost the right to press charges
Musthafa is one of 12 MPs who were controversially removed from parliament last year.
