The finance ministry touted a surge in the price of the Maldives' sovereign sukuk as "a demonstration of strengthening investor confidence and the success of the government's fiscal management". The Islamic bond was trading at US$ 87.44 on Monday, up from US$ 64.72 in early April. The "upward trajectory" reflects repayment to a private creditor in March and a sukuk coupon payment made in April, according to the ministry.
Agreements made by the previous government with recipients of land plots under the Binveriya scheme will not be cancelled, the housing ministry announced. According to the minister, his previous decision to offer amended agreements was reversed to expedite the registration and handover process. The ministry decided to honour existing agreements and to sign an addendum specifying the reallocation of plots due to changes made to the land use plan, he said.
