A 29-year-old man was stabbed to death during an altercation in Laamu Maavah. Moosa Ibrahim, from the Nalahiya house in Maavah, died of a stab wound to the neck. Mohamed Ibrahim, a 29-year-old man from Haa Dhaal Nolhivaranfaru, was taken into custody on suspicion of committing the murder, police said. A police diving team recovered the knife from the island's lagoon.
On his first state visit to the Maldives, Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake was accorded a ceremonial welcome at Malé's Republic Square. Following official talks – which he described as "productive" – he presided over the exchange of a MoU on diplomatic training and a treaty on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters.
