Thai police identified them as Ali Rashid, 46, and Mohamed Wisam, 34. Police were alerted after a cargo service in Pratunam refused the parcels because of a strong smell, and later found them stored beneath a dormitory in Ratchathewi. Both men were charged with jointly possessing crystal meth with intent to sell. They denied the charges, telling police a friend had asked them to send the parcels. Police are investigating possible links to a transnational trafficking network. Maldives police previously named Wisam as one of the main suspects in a 2020 case in which 72kg of heroin were smuggled into the Maldives on a dhoni, but the Criminal Court dismissed the charges against him for insufficient evidence.
