Two teenagers were stabbed in separate incidents in Malé over the weekend.
On Saturday night, a 19-year old was stabbed on his right shoulder in the Maafannu ward of the capital. He was released immediately after treatment at the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital, officials told newspaper Mihaaru.
A young man was stabbed Friday in an apparent case of mistaken identity, according to a Twitter post that went viral among Maldivians.
“Two people just attempted to stab my friend because they misidentified him as the little brother of someone they have a grudge against. Mind you my friend has been away from Maldives for a very long time and he came to male’ a couple of months ago,” reads the tweet.
“They told him you will be killed even after he told them that he wasn’t the little brother of whatever person they have a grudge against. His arm was cut from blocking the jabs and got away alive thanks to self-defense classes he’s been taking.”
Several young men were stabbed to death in gang-related violence last year. In January, a 14-year-old was assaulted in the second student stabbing case this year.
