The mayor of Malé has expressed concerns over the “worsening state of the capital city” following attacks on two school pupils during the first week of the new academic year.
Shifa Mohamed told reporters that in 2017, more children aged 15 to 16 were involved in serious assault cases than previous years.
The former education minister called on authorities to work together to restore calm and public security in Malé.
“Right now, the public does not want authorities to remain silent. They want immediate measures to be taken and they want to be assured of their safety,” she said.
