Criminal and Civil Courts get new judges

The monthly salary for a lower court judge ranges from MVR46,000 (US$2,900) to MVR48,000.

Four new judges were appointed to the Criminal and Civil Courts on Monday, local media reported.

The new judges for the Criminal Court are former chief magistrate Hassan Najeeb and Ismail Rasheed.

The new judges for the Civil Court are Hussain Faiz, who is former chair of the employment tribunal, and Haafiza Abdul Sattar.

A total of 28 people applied for the four positions, according to the Judicial Services Commission.

The Criminal Court has nine judges and the Civil Court has 15 judges with the latest additions.

The monthly salary for a lower court judge ranges from MVR46,000 (US$2,900) to MVR48,000.

New judges were also appointed to the Criminal Court and High Court in January.
