The ADK hospital has opened a special flu clinic to cope with the surge in patients seeking treatment.
The first lady's campaign office began distributing masks, medicine and leaflets about influenza in Malé on Thursday and planned to send supplies to islands facing shortages.
Both the government-run Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital and the private ADK hospital have also started offering the influenza vaccine to pregnant women.
