Abdul Majeed, a member of the Raa atoll Kinolhas island council, was found dead in his home Wednesday night.
The death of the 48-year-old was reported around 7:45pm, police said.
Kinolhas council president Ahmed Hussain told Raajje TV that he was unaware of any health problems. Majeed had been at the council earlier in the day and was found in his office clothes inside his room, he said.
But Mihaaru reported that Majeed had undergone an angioplasty 12 years ago.
