Former Prosecutor General Muhthaz Muhsin was taken back to the high-security Maafushi prison Tuesday after a week’s stay at the ADK hospital in Malé.

Muhthaz, who is serving a 17-year jail term on charges of conspiring to kidnap the president with a fraudulent arrest warrant, was administered an injection for a longstanding back problem.

His family blames negligence by the Maldives Correctional Service for Muhthaz needing the injection for the third time since his incarceration. He could become physically disabled without proper treatment, the family warned in a statement earlier this month.

“Muhthaz has had three powerful injections as a result of MCS politicising his treatment. Treated in admission for nine days. How will corrections treat him this time? Will you follow the doctor’s instructions?” his wife tweeted Tuesday.
