The Maldives signed an agreement with the Kingdom of Morocco on Thursday to exempt respective nationals from visa requirements after January 31, 2020.

Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid signed the agreement with his counterpart during an official visit to Morocco after presenting a letter from the president to the King Mohamed IV of Morocco.

“Both ministers reiterated commitment to further strengthen the bilateral partnership between the two countries in areas such as economic cooperation, people to people contact, culture and heritage, counter-terrorism and radicalisation, education and climates change,” according to the foreign ministry.

A cooperation agreement was also signed between the Maldives ministry of Islamic affairs and Morroco’s ministry of religious endowments. Memoranda of Understanding were signed between the foreign ministries and the Foreign Service Institute of Maldives and the Foreign Service Academy of Morocco.

Since the new administration took office in November, visa agreements have also been signed with the UAE, India, Thailand, Russia and most recently with Sri Lanka.
