Government scraps disability housing programme

The government has reversed a decision to allocate flats to people with disabilities after people complained about it, reports Avas.

It announced in 2013 it was going to give 15 flats to people with disabilities every year, but complaints followed about inconsistencies in the point-awarding criteria and the list of flat-winners.

A final list was compiled in 2015 and the gender ministry was making preparations to award the flats when a complaint was again filed with the anti-graft watchdog.

An investigation by the Anti-Corruption Commission found that some 571 application forms that were evaluated under the marking criteria lacked the necessary information.

Avas reported that people who submitted applications  in 2013 for the disability housing programme had not been informed of the decision to scrap it.
