Highway dividers on Sinamalé bridge link road to be replaced

The Housing Development Corporation is to replace the damaged wooden dividers on the highway linking Hulhumalé to the Sinamalé Bridge with concrete dividers.

The wooden dividers were destroyed in a spate of accidents on the bridge, mostly involving four wheeled vehicles smashing into them.

On Saturday night, a pick-up lost control after its front tyres blew out, colliding with the dividers and a bus. Several more dividers were destroyed in the accident.

The HDC, which provides municipal services in Hulhumalé, told local media that the police service had asked for replacement concrete dividers. The HDC also plans to ask drivers involved in accidents to pay for the damage they cause to the dividers.
