A man injured in a speedboat fire Monday morning suffered burns to 30 percent of his body.
The 39-year-old victim from the Vaikaradhoo island is in stable condition, a Hulhumalé hospital official told the media. The patient has been transferred to the surgical ward’s isolation unit for recovery.
He was among two men who were injured after an explosion on a Maldives Transport and Contracting Company speedboat docked at the Hulhumalé harbour. A third crew member reportedly jumped overboard when the fire broke out.
The battery of the petrol pump on the speedboat exploded while crew were performing a maintenance operation, police said.
The other victim sustained minor injuries burns on his arms and face. He was released after treatment on Monday afternoon.
