A power cut on Madaveli island has been fixed, state utility firm Fenaka said Monday, after a faulty generator left thousands of people without electricity since Thursday.

A generator was installed on the island Sunday, and Fenaka spokesman Mohamed Manik confirmed to the Maldives Independent the issue had been resolved.

But he denied that Villingilli, in Gaafu Dhaalu, had been experiencing power cuts since Friday.

Raajje.mv reported there were power cuts every half hour on the island.

The power cuts were due to problems with the largest generator on the island, Villingilli’s council president told the news site. The local Fenaka branch informed him it would take four more days for the issue to be resolved.

Electrical appliances on the island were being damaged due to the outages, he added.
