The Judicial Service Commission has recommended to Parliament that Thinadhoo Island Magistrate Ibrahim Rasheed be dismissed.

Hassan Zaheen, the director of the JSC, said the judicial watchdog had investigated a disciplinary case against Rasheed and concluded that the Majlis should consider his dismissal.

“We investigated a disciplinary case [against] Ibrahim Rasheed due to his involvement in a public quarrel,” he told the Maldives Independent.

Rasheed has a poor disciplinary record and was even arrested in connection with drugs while serving as a magistrate.

The JSC is also investigating Supreme Court Justice Abdulla Didi, Chief Judge of the Family Court Hassan Saeed and Mohamed Raqib, who is the chief magistrate of Kaafu atoll.

Didi is accused of taking a US$1 million bribe to sentence former President Mohamed Nasheed to 13 years in jail.

He is also suspected of receiving stolen money from the MVR1.3 billion Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation corruption scam on several occasions.

Saeed is accused of obstructing an internal investigation into sexual harassment against a female employee of the court, while Raqib has five cases against him, the details of which have not been disclosed.
