Ahmed Nareesh, the deputy mayor of Malé resigned from the city council, saying he intends to “serve the country and people in a different role”.

Riot police were accused of using disproportionate force as they pushed back opposition protesters, resulting in injuries to some as the MDP took to the streets of Malé for the sixth consecutive night. Earlier on Wednesday, the police summoned a former MDP MP involved in leading the demonstrations. Mohamed Rae was accused of violating the freedom of assembly law, disrupting traffic and businesses, and obstructing police duty.

The health ministry contracted three state-owned companies to build four hospital buildings, four health center buildings, and the Damanaveshi building in Kulhudhuffushi City for a total cost of about MVR 627 million (US$ 40 million).  

Customs earned MVR 363 million as revenue in February with imports of MVR 4.4 billion and exports of MVR 223 million.
