A cargo boat caught fire en route to Malé and sank after the fire was put out. The Coastguard rescued 17 crew members, two of whom suffered burns. A search was ongoing for 25-year-old Ali Mushfiq Mohamed Shareef who was lost at sea.  

India increased a special quota for the export of basic commodities to the Maldives. The increment was the biggest since the agreement was signed in 1981, covering food and construction materials, and exempting the Maldives from export bans imposed during domestic supply shortages.
