The parliament’s Judiciary Committee endorsed the Judicial Service Commission’s decision to dismiss Criminal Court Judge Hussain Faiz Rashaad for releasing Ali Anwar. Anwar, allegedly a key figure in a drug smuggling network, was released without conditions, after which he fled the country. The case will now move to the parliament floor where a vote in favor will remove the judge.

President Muizzu amended a presidential decree on reducing single-use plastics, pushing back the ban on producing, importing and packaging 500ml to 1-litre plastic water bottles to 1 December 2027.
