Despite issuing a permit to march down Majeedhee Magu, police obstructed a May Day rally organised by the Maldives Trade Union Congress, setting up barricades, blocking access to the main thoroughfare and diverting the protest march to Ameenee Magu, where protesters marched and called for equal rights for all workers. In his message on the occasion, President Muizzu encouraged parents to raise children with a "mindset focused on productivity and a strong work ethic."
