Impeachment move, recruit accident and underwater panel

News in brief from Sunday, May 4.

The Judicial Service Commission made a recommendation for parliament to impeach Supreme Court Justices Dr Azmiralda Zahir and Mahaz Ali Zahir for allegedly exerting influence over a criminal court judge. Four members voted for their removal. Two lower court judges on the 10-member watchdog opposed the decision. 

A 34-year-old police recruit undergoing training was airlifted to Malé for treatment and placed on ventilator support at IGMH. He was found unresponsive and motionless in bed. 

To mark its 20th anniversary, Ooredoo Maldives hosted the world’s largest underwater panel discussion near Baa Fulhadhoo in an attempt to set a Guinness World Record. Twenty participants, including the fisheries minister and the Ooredoo Maldives CEO, took part in the event, with each of the five panelists speaking for two minutes underwater.

Maldivian band Two of Us clinched third place in the Indian music competition Battle of the Bands International, capping off an impressive journey to the grand finale.
