Raudh release, scam surge and Covid return

Raudh, a 21-year-old man arrested over the unexplained fall of a young woman from a nine-storey building, was released and taken back into custody two hours later under a new arrest warrant. Police did not disclose any reason. Later in the day, police revealed seeking the help of Malaysian authorities to obtain a statement from Hawwa Yumnu, the fall victim, accusing her family of refusing to cooperate with the investigation.

In a message to the media, the HPA advised caution over an uptick in Covid-19 cases along with the spread of the seasonal flu and dengue. The agency did not share any numbers.

More than MVR 481,000 (US$ 31,000) was lost in 45 scams reported over the past, according to the police anti-scam centre. Of the total, 26 cases involved e-commerce platforms including Facebook marketplace, and over 80 percent of the money lost has been recovered, police said.
