The Maldives Journalist Association decided to establish a self-regulatory system for journalism in the Maldives, and asked the public for feedback before September 30. The MJA also met with the Human Rights Commission regarding police conduct during protests against the new media regulatory bill, which injured journalists and damaged equipment. The commission said they were investigating the incident, Adhadhu reported

The President’s Office lost access to its official YouTube channel following a hack, President's Office Communications Minister Ibrahim Khaleel told the Edition. The office’s cyber security team is investigating the incident. 

Galolhu North MP Mohamed Ibrahim proposed an amendment to revise the asset declaration process requiring MPs to submit audited financial statements within one month of taking oath, instead of the current one-year period. The changes also mandate annual disclosure deadlines for ministers and extend requirements to heads of 26 independent institutions and government company executives. For heads of institutions, non-compliance would result in salary deductions or fines up to MVR 5,000 (US$ 325).

Chief Justice Abdul Ghanee Mohamed said the Maldives' initial anti-drug campaigns, including school awareness programmes during former President Gayoom's administration, had the opposite effect and led to widespread youth drug use. Speaking at a meeting on the Prevention of Gang and Other Serious Offences Act in Alif Dhaal Maamigili, he said drugs are the "mother" of all serious offenses and have eroded public trust in law enforcement. 

The National Drug Agency has resumed collecting urine samples from people receiving drug treatment after a 25-day interruption. The NDA's urine sample kits for people receiving treatment ran out on August 25 and testing resumed last week when new kits arrived, Adhadhu reported

Police arrested a 57-year-old after a hit-and-run collision with a 63-year-old pedestrian near MACL Tower on September 21. The victim, who suffered injuries to her leg, is being treated at IGMH Hospital.

Police arrested a 35-year-old man for smuggling drugs concealed in his mouth. The criminal court set remand for five days. Police said the amount found meets the threshold for trafficking. 

The education ministry opened applications for stipends for student teachers who agree to work in islands lacking teachers. The ministry will provide MVR 1,500 monthly stipends to degree students in primary, Islamic studies, or Dhivehi subjects, with priority for those agreeing to work in islands with a teacher shortage. A similar allowance will be offered to A-level students pursuing teaching careers.

The foreign ministry said former president Nasheed's office never officially requested a UN headquarters pass, contradicting his Monday claim that the government refused to arrange necessary permits. The ministry stated it accords former presidents due respect and will continue facilitating their international visits through established procedures.

The Food and Drug Authority and Malé City Council shut down around 25 cafés and restaurants in Malé and Villimalé during ongoing hygiene inspections. The joint operation, which began this week and continues until Thursday, targets both licensed and unlicensed food establishments.

President Muizzu announced a 50-unit housing project will be launched in Meemu Madifushi in 2026 during his ongoing tour of inhabited islands across four atolls.

The military launched a search for a man who fell overboard from the Indian cargo vessel MS Daula on Monday.

The Maldives National University inaugurated the Chinese Language Centre in affiliation with Yunnan Open University. 

The immigration detained 81 foreign individuals during a mass raid targeting illegal businesses, after inspecting 932 foreign nationals. Ten businesses were also identified and flagged.
