Youth advisors, May Day and cigarette incineration

News in brief from Friday and Saturday, April 25 and 26.

Three members of the Presidential Youth Advisory Board resigned following calls at youth-led demonstrations in Malé for four consecutive nights.

MDP announced plans for a May Day protest rally at 8:30pm at Malé’s artificial beach.

Former Supreme Court justice Suood launched a petition for the removal of the representative of the legal profession from the Judicial Service Commission. Ali Abdul Latheef is accused of enabling the investigation and suspensions of three justices without due process. The petition has been gaining support among lawyers, according to media reports.

More than a million confiscated cigarettes were destroyed at police detention island, Dhoonidhoo. 

The first test flight landed at Meemu Muli on Saturday. The newest domestic airport in the country is scheduled to be inaugurated next week.
