The state broadcaster launched a charity telethon in partnership with private media to raise funds to help Sri Lankans affected by Cyclone Ditwah. The ‘Maldivians with Ceylon’ telethon began at 9am on Sunday and had raised over MVR 5.4 million (US$ 350,683) as of Monday morning. Local tourism heavyweights Sun Siyam, Crown and Champa as well as the Bank of Maldives contributed donations. The telethon was extended to go until 2pm on Monday.

President Muizzu departed for the United Kingdom to participate in the ‘High-level Briefing on Private Capital Mobilisation’ organised by the Sustainable Markets Initiative (SMI). The meeting’s objective is the “mobilising of private capital to accelerate sustainable development and support global climate transitions through strengthened international cooperation”, according to the President’s Office. This is Muizzu’s fifth trip to the UK since taking office.
A fire broke out in the wetland area of Fuvahmulah’s Funaadu ward on Saturday night, the Maldives National Defence Force said. Firefighters extinguished the blaze within two hours, and no injuries were reported, according to the MNDF.

Police confirmed that the family of the alleged victims in the child sexual abuse case involving “The Travel Guys” shareholder Sunny Umar has filed an official complaint. Media reports say Sunny fled the country over the weekend after being accused of sexually assaulting three minors from his wife’s family.
