Ihavandhoo council’s restrictions spark debate about treatment of migrant workers
The council ordered all foreign workers to register within five days, imposed a curfew of 10 pm, and prohibited public gatherings with the exception of Friday afternoons. Foreign workers were also banned from fishing, collecting wood, fronds or coconuts, and participating in events without invitation.

Bangladeshi suspect confesses to murder
Sumon Mia, the Bangladeshi suspect who has confessed to the murder, was working under the victim at the Ihavandhoo ice plant, the police said in a statement Sunday afternoon.

Man found murdered in Ihavandhoo ice plant
Local media has identified the victim as Ismail Umar from the island of Hinnavaru, a mechanic at the ice plant. According to community news site Ihavandhoo Online, the police were called in to help open the plant around 4:15 pm and found the body inside the restroom.
