Sri Lankan experts confirm bomb blast on president’s speedboat, says home minister

Umar Naseer told the press today that a team of forensic experts from Sri Lanka who investigated the incident has confirmed that the blast was caused by an explosive device. Forensic teams from the US, Saudi Arabia, Australia, and India also investigated the blast, but have not shared their findings with the government so far.

Japan grants US$20m for digital broadcasting network project

“With the adoption of the ISDB network, Maldivian broadcasters can cost efficiently send their broadcasting signals across Maldives with ease,” Home Minister Umar Naseer said after signing the agreement with the the Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA). ISDB-T is a technical standard for digital broadcasting developed by Japanese and Brazilian experts.

Home minister denies text message appeal to “save the country from vice president”

Several journalists received text messages from Umar Naseer that read: “During this critical juncture, I hope the media will properly fulfil its responsibility.” A second message read: “Consider this a national matter and work to save the country from the vice president. This is my final appeal. Thank you!”

Home minister to decide on extension of Nasheed’s house arrest

“We have forwarded all of Nasheed’s medical records and the doctors recommendations to the home minister. He now will decide on extension of house arrest,” Commissioner of Prisons Mohamed Husham told The Maldives Independent today.

Third meeting of talks cancelled

The government has cancelled a third meeting in ongoing talks with the MDP as some ministers are out of the country, the president’s office has said.
