A 15-year-old boy was found unconscious on an Addu City street with head injuries on Sunday night, the police have said.
Irusham Abdulla of southern Addu City’s Hithadhoo ward was discovered by police officers patrolling the streets at 10pm last night.
A police spokesman said Irusham’s injuries were not serious, but that he would be flown to Malé today for a scan of his head. It is not clear yet how he came to sustain injuries, and no arrests have been made yet, he added.
A Hithadhoo Regional Hospital spokesman said Irusham had suffered “somewhat” injuries to his head. The boy, a tenth-grade student, has regained consciousness now, he said.
On Thursday morning an Addu businessman, 47 years, was found dead in a Taro field. His shop had been looted that night.
A 24-year-old man has been arrested over Ali Abdulla’s suspected murder.
The incidents comes amidst a police operation to reduce crimes in Addu City.
Meanwhile a 65-year-old man found unconscious in Hulhumalé on Saturday died this morning from a brain haemorrhage. A spokeswoman for Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital said doctors have not noticed suspicious injuries on his body.
Last week also saw two bizarre biting incidents. An assailant attacked a man while he was at prayer and bit off part of his ear on Thursday. On Saturday, another man assaulted a taxi driver and bit two parts of his head in Addu City.
