The Maldives tax authority has reported an almost 20 percent bump in revenue for February 2018 compared to the same period last year.
The revenue statistics for last month, published on Sunday by the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA), records a total revenue of MVR1.3 billion (US$82.96 million).
An increase in tourist arrivals in January led to higher collection from two taxes – green and GST – as did the inclusion of a fee levied on passengers travelling abroad from Velana International Airport.
Money owed to MIRA under its enforcement policy also contributed to the increase.
The majority of the revenue collected last month was in US dollars. GST accounted for 63.7 percent of total revenue and 70.3 percent of dollar revenue.
