UAE foreign minister calls on President Yameen

Foreign Minister of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Abdulla bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, called on President Abdulla Yameen today, and delivered a letter from the UAE prime minister to a trade fair to be held in 2020.

Sheikh Abdulla, who arrived in the Maldives Thursday, extended the invitation on behalf of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The Expo 2020 in Dubai in October 2020, according to the president’s office.

He also invited Yameen to visit UAE on behalf of the President of the UAE, Emir of Abu Dhabi and the Commander of the Union Defence Force, His Royal Highness Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Yameen briefed Abdulla on his administration’s development projects, while Abdulla spoke of integrated water desalination systems, powered by renewable energy, that the UAE was working on.

He also met with his Maldivian counter-part, Dunya Maumoon, in Malé today and spoke on boosting trade and tourism ties.

“Maldives established diplomatic relations with UAE on 15 March 1978 and UAE continues to be a close development partner of the Maldives,” the foreign ministry said, in a statement announcing the minister’s departure.
