The anti-corruption watchdog said Wednesday it had asked charges to be brought against the former boss of a state-owned firm in a US$255,000 corruption case.

Ibrahim Fuad was dismissed from his position of managing director at the state-owned Waste Management Corporation last May. No reason was given at the time.

The Anti-Corruption Commission said Fuad had paid an advance of US$255,000 to buy a landing craft worth US$850,000 from a private Singapore company, breaching WAMCO’s procurement policy.

The firm’s proposal of interest had been addressed to Fuad outside of official channels while the landing craft purchase had been facilitated and signed by Fuad personally, the ACC said.

It asked the Prosecutor General’s office  to charge Fuad with using his influence for corrupt benefits and to pay back the US$255,000 to the state.
